The Story of a Farmer and His Sons
Once upon a time, there was a farmer who had five sons. They were all strong and hardworking, but they often fought and quarreled with each other.
The farmer wished that his sons would live together in harmony and peace. He often tried to explain the importance of unity to them, but his advice had no effect on his sons. As a result, the farmer was always worried and distressed.
He wondered every day, “How can I make these boys understand the importance of living together peacefully?” One day, he suddenly got an idea. He called his five sons to him and said, “Look at this bundle of sticks. Can any of you break this bundle of sticks while it is tied together?”
Each son tried one after the other to break the bundle of sticks. They all used all their strength, but none of them could break it.
Then the old farmer said, “Now, untie the bundle and break each stick one by one.” Each son took a stick and broke it easily.
The farmer then gave them some advice:
“Each stick was easily broken because it was weak on its own. But when those same sticks were bundled together, they were very strong. Similarly, if you five live together in harmony, you will be strong. But if you keep fighting and live separately, you will become weak.”
This simple demonstration helped the sons understand the value of unity and cooperation. From that day on, they worked together and lived peacefully, making their father very happy.
